Being an audit firm with a large client base, give us as auditors the opportunity to view and assess our clients accounting software and particularly identify to our clients any deficiencies we discover as part of the audit process. Choosing the right accounting package for your business is not a decision to be taken lightly. While your current accounting package may be adequate in your eyes, it’s always a good idea to take a step back and consider whether there are processes currently being undertaken by your staff, that could be automated as part of an integrated accounting package. Where procedures can be automated, the risk to your business reduces significantly, as human error and potential for fraud are removed from the equation.
Questions to ask before choosing the packageThere are any number of accounting software packages available, and the pertinent questions you need to ask yourself as part of the appraisal process are:

- How much are you willing to pay for an accounting package and what type
- What features does your business require in an accounting package
- How data is stored
