Key Facts and Trends in the Accounting Profession

macbook-924781_640 The Financial Reporting Council has recently published its’ 13th edition of ‘Key Facts and Trends in the Accountancy Profession’, the annual report which gives an important insight into the accountancy profession as a whole. Some of the key findings of the report are very interesting:
  • Total membership of the accountancy bodies continues to grow with an annual growth rate of approximately 2.5% annually in the UK and ROI membership rated over the period 2010-14.
  • The number of audit firms continues to decline according to the FRC, noting a fall in registered audit firms of 4.9% over a period of 12 months from 31 December 2013 – 31 December 2014.
  • The largest growth in the period 2010 – 2014 amongst the professional bodies can be attributed to CIMA with an annual growth rate of 4% over the period.
  • ICAEW accredited members account for the largest professional body in the UK and Ireland over the period 2010-2014.
  • ACCA still remains the largest professional body of accountants in the world across all 7 surveyed as at 31 December 2014. Furthermore ACCA students were found to be the most evenly dispersed across the different employment sectors.
  • The overall percentage of female students (50%) is significantly higher than the percentage of female mebers (36%) as at 31 December 2014.
  • CAI members are among the youngest population of members with66% younger than 45 years of age in 2014.
