Psychological Care For Patients Diagnosed With Cancer and Their Families – Fundraising Campaign

Dear All, Hugh Cooney, a founding partner and great friend to Cooney Carey was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in May 2013 (colon and liver). He been extremely well looked after since then by oncologist Dr. Ray McDermott and his team in St. Vincent's Private (SVP).  Hugh receives chemo treatment on average every two weeks. Hugh has been speaking to Ray recently and some of the senior nurses who work in the Daycare Oncology Centre.  He has noticed that since he started attending the Care Centre in June 2013 that there was no Psychological Care / Services available to patients and their families.  Ray and his senior team have now identified 2/3 projects that would benefit from funding but the primary objective would be the recruitment of a permanent psychologist to support patients, family and friends who are impacted by someone diagnosed with cancer. Hugh has agreed with Ray that he will now start a Fundraising Campaign with the primary objective of raising sufficient funds to employ a permanent psychologist at SVP.  The target for the campaign is €80,000. Hugh anticipates the campaign will continue until 31st December 2015. To launch his campaign Hugh shaved "the remaining hairs". Hugh Cooney
