Tuesday Tip on Communication #3: How To Approach The Media? 5 Best PR Hooks

IF YOU DO HAVE A STORY…

news

If you have a unique story about your startup that makes your business different, then here are some of the hooks that work best when approaching the media:

  1. The launch of a new product or service - why is it unique?
  2. Using compelling research or data, preferably in the form of a well-designed infographic/graphs to support your messages
  3. Your company's response to a current relevant news event – add your voice by saying something new and contributing to the debate/discussion
  4. News of a high profile partnership (of business media interest)
  5. Invite media to visit your business or try your product or service. Try to hook this into a bigger story so that the journalist has a news hook e.g. ‘To celebrate National Bike Week, we’d like to invite you to cycle our state-of-the-art new electric bike to work for one week.’
